Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. No experience required. Knowledge of Sam Houston State new student recruitment activities, admissions policies, and university procedures would be helpful. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Serves as a representative of Sam Houston State University responsible for managing an assigned recruitment territory and guiding prospective students from inquiry through enrollment. Engages in outreach, relationship building, and data-informed recruitment strategies to attract and enroll students who align with the University’s mission and goals. Supports institutional enrollment success through strategic communication, territory management, and collaborative engagement with internal and external partners.
Primary Responsibilities
Plans and executes recruitment travel and presentations within assigned territory and assists teammates when necessary. Engages prospective students through high school visits, college fairs, campus visits, classroom presentations, and community events. Hosts individual and group appointments for students and families, providing guidance on degree options, the admissions process, and enrollment steps. Manages proactive and timely communication with prospective students through CRM, phone calls, text, and email outreach. Analyzes territory progress toward enrollment goals and adjusts strategies as needed. Builds and maintains relationships with high school counselors, teachers, community-based organizations, alumni, and campus stakeholders. Participates in planning and executing recruitment and yield events such as admitted student receptions, counselor programming, on-campus visit programs, and community-based engagement events. Maintains accurate records of student interactions and event outcomes within the CRM. Tracks and reports on funnel progress, monitors KPIs, and assists with reporting ROI on recruitment activities. Provides recommendations to improve recruitment strategies, events, and communications. Serves as lead for one or more specialized focus areas, which may include: High school counselor engagement; Local student initiatives and community partnerships; Out-of-state or international recruitment; Athletics or Alumni Relations collaboration; Digital and social media communications; Academic program outreach and pipeline development; Specialized campus visit programs. Maintains professional knowledge of SHSU programs, scholarships, and admissions processes. Assists with admissions file review and application guidance when necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with a range of students, families, and partners. Ability to travel independently and work evenings and weekends as needed. Must possess organizational skills, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and the ability to manage time and responsibilities effectively to meet territory goals. Regular contact with prospective students, families, high school personnel, community college partners, campus departments, alumni, and community organizations. Requires extensive travel during peak recruitment seasons. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Must demonstrate initiative, professionalism, cultural awareness, and the ability to represent the University with enthusiasm and integrity.
The position’s headquarters will be the employee’s residence within the Dallas region. Although assigned to this region, the incumbent may be required to report to another SHSU campus or be reassigned to a different region based on University needs, coverage requirements, or strategic initiatives.
