The Charge Nurse works under the direction of the Unit Manager and plays a crucial role in overseeing patient care, ensuring compliance with medical protocols, and providing leadership to nursing staff. This position requires a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently within a fast-paced environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and guide nursing staff and coordinate patient care activities to ensure high-quality service delivery.
2. Assist with covering staffing needs and support staff in acute challenging situations.
3. Conduct thorough medical documentation and maintain accurate medical records for all residents.
4. Manage resident care, ensuring adherence to regulations and policies
5. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including IV insertion and monitoring vital signs.
6. Provide guidance and support to nursing staff and leads by example.
7. Ensures a clean working environment and promotes teamwork while portraying a positive attitude.
8. Assist with infection control protocols to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
9. Provide education to residents and their families.
10. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance resident outcomes and address complex health issues.
11. Participate in quality improvement initiatives such as audits to enhance service delivery standards.
12. Act as a liaison between residents, families, and healthcare providers to ensure quality of care.
13. Assist with admissions and discharges.
14. Communicate with upper management regarding employee performance.
15. Assist Unit Manager as needed.
16. Follow established policies and procedures of the facility.
17. Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Current nursing license in good standing authorized to practice in the state of South Carolina.
· Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
· Proven experience in a clinical setting, with a focus on memory care, behavioral health, or similar fields preferred.
· Strong skills in medical documentation and record keeping.
· Familiarity with infection control practices and protocols.
· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
· Optimal physical and emotional health.
· Adequate speech and hearing to communicate with residents.
· Near and far acuity, sense of smell.
· Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
· Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
