What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Husbandry Aquarist position at Salty Underground?
Salty Underground is an internet/retail company specializing in the sale and aquaculture of marine livestock. We are seeking a motivated individual who is detail oriented, able to work in a fast paced environment, and able to be on their feet for extended periods of time. This person will be responsible for providing top-notch husbandry to the aquatic animals which will include daily observations of diet, behavioral habits, cleaning, and maintenance. The position will also include shipping, customer service, and other aspects of the business when needed.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Ensuring workspaces, tools, and equipment are clean, organized, and functioning properly
- Prepping and feeding food
- Treating any injured/diseased individuals
- Making observations and recognizing abnormal animal behavior/appearance
- Acting upon/reporting such observations in a timely manner
- Works independently as well as collaboratively on daily tasks and special projects.
- Practices good judgment in decision-making as related to animal care, emergency situations, and projects, and communicates efficiently when their involvement is necessary.
- Aqua-culture of Berghia Nudibranchs
- Performs other duties as required, customer service work, shipping, and other aspects of the business.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must have experience working with Saltwater Livestock, aqua-culture , or related degree.
- Must possess strong observational skills to ensure animal health and safety
- Must possess sound judgment and the ability to use common sense for effective decision-making.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
- Good communication skills, attention to detail, and task completion are essential
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that can include weekends and holidays as required.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, kneel, bend, crouch, squat, and stand for extended periods of time.
