What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concession Worker position at Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community?
Definition: Under general supervision of the Concession Manager, the Concession Worker is responsible for the operation, cleanliness, organization, and sale of food and beverages at the various SRPMIC recreation facilities. Greets and provides excellent customer service to customers in filling food orders during regular hours of operation or for games and special events. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.

1. Customer Service: Welcomes customers that approach concession stands to purchase concession products.
- Takes orders for food and beverages and prepare food items such as sandwiches and hotdogs using appropriate quantities of ingredients.
- Follows proper sanitation guidelines during food preparation and packing purchased items.
- Acquaints customers with prices and packing options and follow instructions regarding portions size and packing.
- Works to provide prompt and timely customer service.
- Helps to resolve customer complaints and elevate to supervisor for resolution when appropriate.
2. Concession Stand Set-up: Assists with the set-up, supply and resupply of concession items, and breakdown of concession stands depending on assigned shift.
- Participates in the set-up of concession stands, arrange inventory of supplies, and ensures supervisor is informed of shortages of supplies so resupply orders can be made.
- Cooks and prepares food items for sale and replenishes items as needed during the shift.
- Performs clean-up duties during and after each shift to ensure that concession area is kept sanitized and clean at all times.
- Reports safety incidents and accidents to immediately to supervisor.
3. Cash Handling: Processes cash payments for food and beverage orders taken.
- Counts and dispenses correct change for all orders taken.
- Verifies cash register drawer and receipts prior to starting and ending shift for shift changeover.
- Properly account for all cash received during each shift and ensure cash is stored in a safe place at the end of the shift.
4. Special Events: Attends and aides in activities and events coordinated by the Recreation Department requiring concession services.
5. Miscellaneous: Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of History, culture, laws, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of basic concession operation procedures.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation.
- Knowledge of basic math.
- Ability to maintain safe working conditions and sanitary work areas.
- Ability to maintain accurate cash handling procedures at all times.
- Ability to read, understand and follow rules and regulations related to handling and selling food and beverage.
- Ability to interact with customers and clients in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl frequently.
- Ability lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to lift and/or move 5-10 pounds frequently.
- Education & Experience: High school or GED equivalent, preferred.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at time of hire.
- Prior concession experience preferred.
- Food Handler’s card required.
- Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.
- Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
- May be required to work beyond normal business hours including flexible work hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
- May be exposed to a variety of weather conditions including severe hot weather conditions and occasional wet periods.
- May be required to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Employees in, and applicants applying for, jobs providing direct services to children are subject to the “Community Code of Ordinances”, Chapter 11, “Minors”, Article X. “Investigation of Persons Working With Children”.
