Job Summary
TRIO VSSS (Veteran Student Support Services) seeks students interested in supporting TRIO VSSS participants as a mentor and peer leader. Our goal is to provide a productive, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment that will guide Veteran students toward study practices, success strategies and aides that help them excel both inside and outside of college. Peer leader responsibilities are being able to answer general student questions, attending peer leader meetings and trainings, understanding details of each TRIO program at SLCC, perform outreach, provide customer service, facilitating workshops/activities, and other duties as assigned, do research.

~Must be a first-generation college student, qualify for FAFSA, or have a documented disability,
~Planning on transferring to a four-year college or university.

- Motivate and encourage new participants.
- Create a welcoming environment for new and continuing participants.
- Knowledge and understanding of a veteran student experience.
- Articulate the purpose of TRIO VSSS to new and potential students.
- Feel comfortable using the SLCC Catalog and class registration platforms.
- Be punctual and dependable.
- Participate in ongoing professional development sessions.
- Front desk duties, as assigned.
- Facilitate and participate in ongoing TRIO workshops, events, and activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Current SLCC Student
- Must be eligible for the TRIO Veterans Student Support Services (VSSS) Program
~Must be a first-generation college student, qualify for FAFSA, or have a documented disability,
~Planning on transferring to a four-year college or university.
- Have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Familiarity with Veteran students.
- Proficient in Microsoft suite.
