JOB SUMMARY
The Student Advocate- Title VI American Indian Program supports American Indian/Alaskan Native students and families to access community and District resources; provides information on services available to eligible students about education under Title VI provisions; conveys information regarding school and district activities and procedures; develops relationships and resources to help families and refers families to other agencies.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, scanner, fax machines, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience working with student groups, community support agencies, community participation and involvement, or other job-related experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using data-based software
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish positive individual relationships with American Indian/Alaskan Native students
- Regularly visits elementary and secondary schools to mentor and advocate for American Indian/Alaskan Native students based on needs, interests, and goals
- Regularly visits elementary and secondary schools to confer with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel regarding the academic needs of American Indian/Alaskan Native students
- Develop relationships and resources within the community to provide needed assistance to eligible families and students
- Collaborate with community leaders, organizations and stakeholders to identify outreach opportunities and develop strategic partnerships that enhance the impact of our programs
- Promote family involvement and provides tools to families to improve children’s academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success
- Create and implement innovative outreach strategies to authentically connect with students and families (e.g., porch visits and other off-site efforts, etc.)
- Prepare written materials (e.g., correspondence, memos, reports, data, etc.) to document activities, providing written reference, and convey information from administrators or counselors
- Co-create and give presentations and workshops to relevant stakeholders around Title VI rights and services available to them
- Maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic records
- Assist students and families to access community and District resources (e.g., clothing, food, holiday assistance, medical insurance, etc.)
- Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars, as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform functions
- Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines
- Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties
- Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 45% sitting, 50% walking, and 5% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
