Starting Wage: $17/hour (86/L) for Bachelor’s degree, $34.07 (20/G) for valid Teaching license and Bachelor’s degree
SUMMARY: The evening, hourly instructor meets the educational needs of our adult education students who are enrolled in high school completion classes through Horizonte Instruction and Training Center; develop lesson plans; model necessary skills; and provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
This position is part time, Monday - Thursday from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This position reports to the principal or administrative designee.
Essential Functions
- Conducts classes, workshops and demonstrations for the purpose of teaching course content.
- Creates developmentally and linguistically appropriate and challenging learning experiences.
- Develops lessons that are accessible and culturally relevant based on individual students’ strengths, interest and needs.
- Plan and schedule student learning activities, prepare instructional materials, lesson plans and related reports (e.g. attendance, anecdotal records, student progress reports, etc.).
- Effectively monitor and supervise the work of adult students, evaluate results, and provide descriptive feedback to students and other stake holders in a variety of ways.
- Allow students different ways to demonstrate learning sensitive to multiple experiences and diversity, while holding high expectations.
- Assesses participant progress, participation and/or skills and provide regular participant feedback in support of learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with school personnel to improve quality of participant outcomes, developing solutions and planning course offerings.
- Address grievances, manage participant behavior and attendance to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Provide for the individual needs of class participants (e.g. learning aids, supportive technology, assistance accessing facilities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring participants maximize learning.
- Flexibility to work with students and stakeholders in a wide variety of circumstances and across a diverse group of individuals.
- Use a variety of available and appropriate technology and resources to support learning.
- Provide student services during regular academic hours while maintaining regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements in an efficient and effective manner.
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected substance abuse, etc.) in accordance with administrative and program policies, procedures, state and federal laws.
- Maintain professional workplace etiquette and represents the department/district in a professional manner; communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers, students, parents, and other district employees.
- Demonstrates adaptability and understanding of cultural differences in working in a diverse environment while coping with stressful situations related to students and maintaining confidentiality.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Safe operation of office and job-related equipment.
- Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
Work Environment Requirements:
- Risks found in the typical work environment which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.
- Driving to work locations
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work: however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, etc…
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in education, science, or a related field
- Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathetic listening and persuasive speaking skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Spanish Speaker: speaks, reads, writes and understands spoken Spanish
- Have a valid State of Utah Teacher License and a Science and an ESL endorsement for subjects taught, an Associate Educator License, or a license from out of state that is transferrable to Utah
- Previous teaching experience
- Experience with grade level/content PLC’s/data meetings for analysis of student data to inform instructional practices for highest student achievement
- Knowledge of effective English Language Learners teaching practices; student social-emotional learning, accelerated/extended learning programs and special needs students, including laws and regulations of special education and 504 plans.
- Familiarity with local community agencies, resources, and services.
