JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Director, Auxiliary Services – Construction provides direction, leadership and administrative oversight to operations and departments supervised, serves as liaison for the district in all levels of communication, maintains a working knowledge and ensuring district compliance to federal, state, and local laws and regulations, develops, recommends, and enforces Board policies, provides information and recommendations to the Board, Superintendent, staff and/or public.
This position supervises the following direct reports: Pre-Construction Manager (2), Construction Project Manager, and Building Code Inspector.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
1. Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical field,
- OR an Associate’s degree in a related discipline with a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible construction or facilities management experience,
- OR ten (10) years of directly related construction management or project management experience in lieu of a degree
2. Leadership Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience supervising construction or facilities staff, contractors, or consultants, including experience leading multiple projects or teams simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, and performance for complex construction programs
3. Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of OSHA compliance, safety standards, and building codes relevant to construction and facilities operations
- Proficiency with standard office and project management software (Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling tools, etc.)
- Ability to interpret and communicate construction drawings, specifications, and contract document
4. Communication and Professional Skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with executives, contractors, and stakeholders
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
5. Travel and Site Work
- Regular travel to construction and facility sites is required
- Current Utah Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
6. Ability to operate standard office equipment, computer, phone, copy machine, scanner, etc.
7. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education
- Master’s degree in Construction Management, Business Administration (MBA), Engineering Management, Architecture, or Project Management
2. Certifications
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or similar industry credential.
- Asbestos Inspector and Project Manager Certifications (or ability to obtain within one year)
- Additional certifications in safety, sustainability, or facilities management (e.g., LEED AP, OSHA 30, Facilities Management Professional (FMP))
3. Industry Experience
- Experience in K–12 education, institutional construction, or public sector capital improvement programs
- Experience with work order management systems (e.g., FAMIS, SchoolDude, FMX, or similar platforms)
4. Technology Proficiency
- Intermediate or advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, project scheduling software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera), or construction management platforms (e.g., Procore, e-Builder)
5. Language Skills
- Spanish language proficiency (reading, writing, and speaking)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise subordinate staff in Construction (e.g., interviewing, coaching, determining workload, training, evaluating, dismissing, etc.) to maintain adequate staffing, assuring adequate, timely, and smooth completion of department responsibilities and goals, enhancing productivity, and achieving department and budgetary objectives
- Assist the Executive Director of Auxiliary Services and serve as back-up regarding all Construction Services functions
- Supervise and professionally develop construction teams to effectively and efficiently provide services to all district schools, properties, and special events
- Develop short and long-range business objectives (e.g., capital projects, etc.) and proactively gather and leverage data to build business cases for budget, process, space changes, positive or negative impacts to facility offerings; and regularly report on facilities data to the Executive Director
- Manage budgets, programs, and staffing to support a quality educational environment
- Ensure all construction documentation (e.g., contracts, permits, inspections, warranties, purchase orders, etc.) is developed, tracked, and executed according to all applicable District, local, state, and federal policies and regulations
- Establish and manage vendor relationships for construction, maintenance, and service contracts; oversee vendor selection, negotiation, and performance to ensure compliance with District standards, safety regulations, and project timelines
- Prepare and present regular status reports for district leadership and project stakeholders, highlighting progress, challenges, and next steps
- Maintain open communication and provide regular project updates to district leadership, school administrators, and district staff, ensuring their needs are appropriately integrated into project planning
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships; support a team environment; collaborate with department and other work units (e.g., district personnel, area supervisors, community organizations, etc.) to perform the duties of the position effectively and implement and maintain services and programs

- Show initiative and resourcefulness (anticipate needs, leverage available resources and relationships, etc.) to gather and analyze information, identify, and resolve complex issues, and develop alternative approaches and ideas to improve the situation and provide strategic solutions
- Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars, as assigned, to convey and gather information required to perform job functions
- Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines
- Serve as a member of the Security Team, and respond to emergencies after hours and on weekends to solve immediate safety concerns
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements
- As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 30 pounds
- Assist and perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective function of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting up to 30 pounds, rolling, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 45% sitting, 25% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed partially in a generally clean and healthy office environment, and partially in environments that involve exposure to construction sites with some temperature extremes and conditions with some exposure to the risk of injury and illness. This job also requires travel in vehicles to construction sites.
