Duties
- Assist dentists chairside during procedures such as restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric treatments, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to aseptic techniques.
- Take and develop dental X-rays while maintaining proper radiation safety protocols.
- Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for confidentiality.
- Support infection control procedures by sterilizing instruments, disinfecting operatories, and adhering to strict aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
- Gather vital signs and medical history information from patients to assist in comprehensive treatment planning.
- Provide excellent dental reception services by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing patient inquiries with professionalism.
- Collaborate with the dental team in four-handed dentistry practices to enhance efficiency during procedures while maintaining optimal patient comfort.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, taking X-rays, and understanding dental terminology.
- Experience working with EMR systems such as Dentrix, or Epic for accurate documentation of medical records and coding.
- Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge related to oral structures, and proper use of medical imaging equipment.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices and providing compassionate care tailored to children’s needs.
- Ability to operate advanced dental technology including digital X-ray machines confidently.
- Strong organizational skills for managing medical records, order supplies, and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating effectively with the dental team and engaging with patients of all ages.
