Operations Manager

Salon 809
Waldorf, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 6/7/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/6/2026

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE

The Operations Manager is the on-the-ground presence that keeps Salon 809's three corporate locations running day to day. This person floats between Bowie, Hyattsville, and Waldorf — wherever they are needed most — handling purchasing, supply management, hiring support, client escalations, staff issues, and location logistics. This role exists so the Director of Operations can lead at a higher level without being pulled into location-level details. The Operations Manager is trusted, resourceful, and executes with authority within clearly defined boundaries.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Purchasing and Supply Management

  • Own day-to-day purchasing for all three salon locations — supplies, products, and consumables
  • Place orders independently within spending guidelines set by the Director of Operations
  • Track inventory levels at each location and reorder before stock runs critically low
  • Source new suppliers when needed and present options to the Director of Operations for approval
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and submit weekly spend reports to the Director of Operations
  • Never exceed purchasing authority thresholds without Director approval — escalate large or unusual orders

Hiring Support

  • Assist the Director of Operations in the hiring process for location-level positions
  • Post approved job listings, screen applications, and schedule interviews
  • Conduct first-round interviews and provide a written recommendation to the Director of Operations
  • Never extend a job offer independently — all offers require Director of Operations approval before delivery
  • Coordinate new hire paperwork logistics and prepare the location for their first day

Opening and Closing Procedures

  • Execute or supervise opening and closing checklists at assigned locations
  • Ensure all locations are guest-ready before doors open — clean, stocked, and set to standard
  • Secure locations at closing and verify end-of-day reconciliation is completed
  • Report any facility, equipment, or safety issues to the Director of Operations immediately

Staff Issues and HR Support

  • Serve as the first point of contact for staff conflicts, policy questions, and behavioral issues at the location level
  • Document all staff incidents accurately, completely, and in real time
  • Escalate unresolved conflicts and HR matters to the Director of Operations with full written documentation
  • Never issue formal discipline or terminate a team member independently — always escalate with a recommendation

Client Escalations and Experience Protection

  • Handle client complaints and service recovery situations with professionalism and calm urgency
  • Resolve issues at the lowest level possible without unnecessary escalation to leadership
  • Document all client complaints in Zenoti and report recurring patterns to the Director of Operations weekly
  • Protect the Salon 809 experience — a client handled with grace is a client retained

Location Coordination

  • Float between all three salon locations based on weekly priority set by the Director of Operations
  • Serve as the communication bridge between location-level staff and the Director of Operations
  • Support scheduling logistics when gaps or last-minute conflicts arise at any location
  • Keep the Director of Operations informed — no surprises

SPENDING AUTHORITY GUIDELINES

The Operations Manager is authorized to make purchasing decisions within the following structure:

  • Routine supply restocking up to $500 per order — no approval needed
  • Single purchases between $500 and $1,500 — notify Director of Operations before placing
  • Any purchase over $1,500 — Director of Operations approval required before order is placed
  • New vendor relationships — always require Director of Operations approval regardless of amount

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE AT 90 DAYS

  • All three locations consistently stocked — no location runs out of critical supplies
  • Purchasing records are clean, organized, and submitted weekly without being requested
  • Client complaints resolved at location level — escalations to Director decreasing over time
  • Hiring pipeline moving efficiently — applications screened and interviews scheduled within 48 hours of posting
  • Director of Operations spends measurably less time on location-level logistics

WHAT THIS ROLE DOES NOT OWN

  • Final hiring decisions or job offer extensions — owned by Director of Operations
  • Major vendor contract negotiations — owned by Director of Operations
  • Payroll processing or bank deposits — owned by Director of Operations
  • Employee onboarding and training — owned by Director of Operations
  • Termination or final disciplinary decisions — owned by Director of Operations and CEO
  • Marketing, social media, or client promotions — owned by Sales & Marketing Manager
  • Laundromat operations — owned by Director of Operations

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 2 years of experience in a multi-location service, retail, or hospitality environment
  • Purchasing or supply chain experience — you know how to manage a vendor and keep shelves stocked
  • Comfortable handling difficult client and staff conversations with confidence and professionalism
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and accountable — you manage up, not down
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred
  • Reliable personal transportation to float between locations in the DC-Maryland area
  • Salon or beauty industry experience is a plus — not required
