What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Lifeguard position at Salmon River Central School District?
- Possession of a valid American Red Cross basic life support for the professional rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate: and
- Possession of a valid lifeguard training certificate from a certifying agency (such as the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, YMCA) acceptable to the State Health Commissioner.
- Provides close supervision over all swimmers while on duty standing watch or patrolling the pool; keeping bathers within bounds and going to their aid when they are in difficulty;
- Applies resuscitation techniques and otherwise renders first aid;
- Instructs beginners in swimming;
- Inspects assigned life guarding and first aid equipment daily;
- Sweeps and disinfects pool deck, removing debris;
- Keep order among swimmers, enforcing pool rules;
- Working knowledge of pool area operation and maintenance
- Ability to make simple records; good observation; mental alertness; good moral character and excellent physical condition.

Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
