What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Teacher position at Salmon River Central School District?
- New York State Certification for Music Education (K-12)
- Ability to establish positive rapport with students, staff, parents, and community
- Knowledge and awareness of the current trends in teaching of pupils and NYS Learning Standards
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and exploration in music (general music, chorus, and band);
- Utilizes the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities;
- Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time;
- Utilizes a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students;
- Collaborates with colleagues to integrate literacy skills and contribute to overall student achievement;
- Evaluates each pupil's growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group;
- Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community, as assigned;
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records;
- Supervises pupils in/out of classroom activities as assigned;
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs;
- Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities;
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities related to music;
- Preference given for someone with piano skills;
- Preference given for someone with computer instruction skills;
- Collaborates and supports the K-12 Music Department, as needed;
- Other duties as assigned by an Administrator.
