Assistant Band Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students using the local and state curriculum guide.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity levels and interests of students.
• Guides a classroom learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and -in harmony with those goals- establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting objectives.
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
• Refers students suspected of having a learning disability to appropriate personnel in the district for the purpose to identifying individual student needs.
• Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing students and develops reasonable classroom procedures to maintain order in a fair and just manner.
• Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teachers assistants and volunteers to achieve the best educational results and supervises their job performance.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
• Enforces all rules governing the conduct of students as prescribed by the principal, superintendent, and Board Policy.
• Strives to maintain hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom.
• Reports to the principal any serious accident or illness - affecting students in his or her charge.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the academic day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Assist the school district to provide a safe, nurturing environment for students.
• Assist the district to comply with HR1 (NCLB) requirements as specified by local, state, and federal mandates.
• Performs such other duties as are assigned by the principal.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

This is a full-time certified band position. Duties include assisting with all middle school bands in a team teaching environment, and assisting with one hour of high school band, including marching band. A woodwind specialist is preferred, but the primary qualification is a strong commitment to teaching and a passion for fostering student growth and musical development.
