What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tier II - Para-Professional (Special Education) position at Sallisaw High School?
POSITION TITLE: Tier II Para-Professional (Special Education)
FLSA: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Special Services Administrator and Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability and desire to work with children with specific challenges
- Must have completed para-professional training conducted by the State Department of Education and passed the Praxis Parapro exam
- Must maintain a para-professional status by participating in at least six hours of in-service training per year
- Must keep CPR and First Aid Training current
- Record of good attendance on the job
- Clear criminal history record
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Implement activities developed to support the objectives of the IEP under the supervision of the special education teacher and related service providers.
- Facilitate mainstreaming activities.
- Perform needed hygiene/health related activities to ensure the health and safety of the student (i.e. changing diapers, assisting with toileting, showering, dressing, feeding, catheterizing, suctioning, positioning, etc.)
- Assist with transportation to ensure students safely enter and exit the school facility and are safely transported during community based activities and class functions.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be required to accomplish essential job functions and directed by the appropriate supervisor.
- Promote a positive professional image.
- Duties include but not limited to:
- Assist students in transitions and classroom work.
- Monitor academic and behavioral needs.
- Personal care and hygiene.
- Support communication skills.
- Support Special Education Teacher Directives.
- Document collected data.
