SUMMARY:

This position will be assisting senior lab members in support of academic research projects. The work will be a combination of computational and experimental work. The computational aspects will include processing of videos, behavioral data and neural data, and applying a variety of statistical and machine learning (ML) tools to analyze it. The experimental aspects will include surgeries, behavior paradigms, extracellular neural signal recording (electrophysiology or calcium imaging), perfusion and histology with mice.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mouse Handling and Behavioral Assays
  • Performs Neurobiological Techniques such as Immunohistochemistry, Fluorescent Microscopy, and Calcium Imaging & Analysis.
  • Data Processing which includes scoring behavioral data.
  • Assists with general Lab Support including preparation of reagents, stocking and organizing incoming lab supplies, and cleaning glassware and equipment as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • No professional experience or training required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The expected pay range for this position is $16.85 to $17.00 per hour. Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.
  • Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but can occasionally get loud.
  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: neuroscience specific equipment.
