Part-Time EL TUTOR (Specialist)
Job Goal:
The EL tutor (specialist) is a 30 hour per week employee (approx. 6 hours per day Monday through Friday, specific hours to be set by employer) who are tasked to plan, provide and implement tutoring sessions for students in the Saline Area Schools EL program. In one-on-one or small group settings, tutors help students improve their skills in speaking, reading, writing and understanding English. Learning sessions are student-driven, focusing on the needs and goals of the student.
Reports To:
EL Coordinator and building principal.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- High School graduate; bachelor's degree preferred
- Ability to collaborate with certified teachers and building administration to support ELL students
- Ability to successfully pass a background check with LiveScan fingerprinting
- Good communication skills and ability to explain concepts and content
- Works well with other tutors and staff
- The ability to adapt to individual learning styles
- Awareness of cultural differences
- Enthusiasm for teaching and learning
- Ability to work independently
- Candidate must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
- Exemplary, regular, predictable attendance is expected
Responsibilities:
- Attend tutor orientation and training
- Plan lessons and activities
- Monitor progress of ELL students
- Administer assessments (WIDA) as directed by the ELL coordinator
- Give individual attention to the learner's educational needs
- Establish a positive rapport with the students, other tutors, parents of students and Saline Area Schools staff
- Maintain accurate records and document student progress
- Meet with ELL Coordinator monthly to discuss students needs and progress
- Refer the student to the staff for needs other than tutoring
Terms of Employment:
Ten month, school year position. Approx. 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. Starting wage $14.50 to $15.23 per hour depending upon experience. Medical, dental, vision, life and LTD insurance provided.
Evaluation:
As defined by Board policy and Saline Area Schools administrative regulations.
