Position Summary
Saline Animal League is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and hardworking Part-Time Animal Care Technician to assist with the daily care of cats and dogs residing in our rescue facility. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and enriching environment while supporting the health and well-being of animals awaiting adoption.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with animals, is comfortable performing physical tasks, and can work independently while maintaining a high standard of animal care.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnimal Care
- Feed and provide fresh water to animals according to established schedules.
- Observe animals daily for signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioral concerns.
- Provide socialization, enrichment, and exercise opportunities for animals.
- Assist with administering medications as directed.
- Monitor food intake, appetite, and general health.
Cleaning and Sanitation
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, litter boxes, food bowls, and animal living areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize facility spaces.
- Launder animal bedding, towels, and cleaning materials.
- Dispose of waste properly and maintain sanitation standards.
- Restock cleaning supplies and animal care materials as needed.
Animal Handling
- Safely handle cats and dogs of various sizes, ages, and temperaments.
- Assist with animal transportation when necessary.
- Support intake and adoption activities as directed.
- Maintain animal safety during daily care routines.
Facility Support
- Assist with general housekeeping and organization of the rescue facility.
- Report maintenance concerns or safety hazards promptly.
- Help maintain inventory of food, litter, cleaning products, and supplies.
- Assist with donation sorting and organization as needed.
Public Interaction
- Interact professionally and courteously with adopters, volunteers, donors, and visitors.
- Provide basic information about animals available for adoption.
- Represent Saline Animal League in a positive and professional manner.
Qualifications Required
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to safely handle cats and dogs.
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks.
- Weekend availability
Preferred
- Previous animal shelter, rescue, veterinary, kennel, or animal care experience.
- Experience administering medications.
- Knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around cleaning chemicals, animal dander, and pet hair.
- Ability to safely restrain and handle animals when necessary.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
This position involves direct contact with cats and dogs and may include exposure to:
- Animal waste
- Cleaning and disinfecting chemicals
- Animal noises, including barking and meowing
- Potential scratches, bites, and other minor animal-related injuries
