Salina Planing Mill is seeking a CAD Drafter / Engineer to join our team. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with strong CAD skills who can interpret architectural drawings, develop accurate shop drawings, and help turn project requirements into information our manufacturing team can successfully build from.
Experience in architectural woodwork, cabinetry, millwork, or commercial construction is preferred, but we are also interested in candidates with a strong drafting or engineering background who are willing to learn our industry.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed shop drawings and production drawings for architectural casework, millwork, trim, specialty fixtures, and related products.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine project requirements.
- Create and revise drawings using AutoCAD and/or BricsCAD.
- Coordinate drawing details, dimensions, materials, hardware, and construction methods.
- Work closely with project managers, production personnel, and other team members to resolve design and fabrication questions.
- Incorporate architect, contractor, and customer comments into drawing revisions.
- Help ensure drawings are accurate, complete, buildable, and consistent with project specifications.
- Develop information needed for manufacturing, purchasing, and production.
- Assist with engineering projects for CNC manufacturing and other automated production processes.
- Maintain organized project files and drawing documentation.
- Help identify potential conflicts or problems before drawings are released to production.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education or formal training in drafting, CAD, engineering technology, construction technology, architecture, or a related field.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or comparable professional CAD software.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of dimensions, geometry, and basic construction principles.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, production personnel, customers, and other members of the project team.
- Comfortable working with computers and learning new software.
Preferred:
- Experience with architectural woodwork, commercial cabinetry, millwork, casework, furniture, or related manufacturing.
- Experience with Microvellum.
- Experience with Innergy or another manufacturing ERP/project-management system.
- Experience preparing shop drawings for commercial construction projects.
- Knowledge of woodworking materials, hardware, joinery, machining, and manufacturing methods.
- Experience with CNC-based manufacturing or preparing drawings and engineering data for CNC equipment.
