Registered Nurse (RN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Orthopedic Clinic – Private Practice

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides high-quality clinical care to patients in a fast-paced orthopedic specialty practice. This role supports physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering exceptional patient care through assessment, treatment coordination, patient education, clinical procedures, and care management. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, efficient, and committed to delivering an outstanding patient experience.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Patient Care

  • Room patients and obtain complete medical histories and vital signs.
  • Assess patient concerns and communicate pertinent findings to providers.
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
  • Assist physicians and APPs during office procedures.
  • Apply and remove casts, splints, braces, slings, and orthopedic immobilization devices as appropriate.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, staple and suture removal.
  • Administer injections and medications within scope of practice.
  • Perform medication reconciliation.
  • Monitor patients following procedures and respond appropriately to clinical changes.

Care Coordination

  • Coordinate pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Provide detailed patient education regarding diagnoses, surgery, medications, activity restrictions, and recovery expectations.
  • Review laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic results with providers as directed.
  • Coordinate referrals, therapy, imaging, DME, and specialty consultations.
  • Communicate with hospitals, surgery centers, pharmacies, rehabilitation facilities, and other healthcare providers.

Telephone Triage

  • Assess patient symptoms using clinical judgment and established protocols.
  • Prioritize urgent concerns appropriately.
  • Document telephone encounters accurately.
  • Provide patient education and communicate provider recommendations.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, timely electronic medical records.
  • Document assessments, treatments, patient education, and communications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and payer requirements.

Clinical Operations

  • Prepare and stock examination and procedure rooms.
  • Maintain infection prevention and OSHA standards.
  • Manage clinical supplies and report inventory needs.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in daily huddles and workflow improvement activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Kansas RN or LPN license in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred

  • Orthopedic, surgical, sports medicine, emergency department, or family medicine experience.
  • Experience with casting and splinting.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic procedures and post-operative care.
  • Experience with insurance authorizations and care coordination.
  • Familiarity with ModMed or similar electronic health records.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, and assist patients.
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for clinical procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Work Environment

  • Private orthopedic specialty clinic.
  • Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, therapists, and ancillary staff.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other clinical hazards using standard precautions.
