POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Group Exercise Coordinator, the Group Exercise Instructor will instruct group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement. The Group Exercise Instructor will provide a quality experience to members, participants, staff and others that focuses on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
- Answer questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and wellness. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Keep accurate class attendance records.
- Ensure a high level of customer service which enhances the member, program participant and guest experience and satisfaction.
- Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding customer expectations every day which includes building and maintaining professional relationships with members, staff, and community partners.
- Support and contribute to a safe and clean environment for staff and members by implementing and enforcing safety and cleaning procedures.
- Responsible for finding a substitute and communicating this information to the Group Exercise Coordinator.
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- All other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 1 year of group exercise teaching experience and certification or training in areas of expertise.
- This person must treat everyone with courtesy, respect and consideration; display integrity; listen actively and genuinely; communicate in a clear and pleasant manner; embrace differences among people; demonstrate an active willingness to learn and grow; accept constructive criticism; and work cooperatively as a team member.
- Certifications: CPR/FA, within 30 days of hire
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
- Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
- Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
- Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- Work in different temperature environments.
