What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Accountant -Accounting Chief position at Sales and Merchandising Services?
Objective:
This position reports to the group Controller and the Finance Director, and has to ensure the timely and accurate recording of the company’s accounting entries in accordance with established policies, procedures, and legal regulations.
Responsible for timely month-end and year-end closings, coordination with auditors for financial reviews, and control of the company’s cash flow, equity changes, and operational balance sheet accounts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and support Accounts Payable and Accounting functions.
- Manage monthly and annual closings, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
- Maintain up-to-date financial files and reports for each company.
- Record and monitor monthly provisions, prepaid expenses, and investment closings.
- Supervise accounting entries, reclassify discrepancies, and manage the fixed asset register.
- Handle payroll entries, maintain the chart of accounts, and manage financial dimensions in Business Central.
- Ensure consistent use of the ERP system and promote continuous improvement.
- Maintain financial consistency between U.S. and international operations.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations; process vendor, employee, and bank payments.
- Support weekly cash flow reporting and coordinate renewals of property, liability, and inventory insurance.
- Provide financial data for annual tax calculations and lead external audits.
- Submit regulatory reports (Resale Tax, Sales & Use Tax, Harris County TX, Call2Recycle CA).
- Assist with budget preparation and calculate interest on intercompany loans.
- Manage EFTPS payments, distributions, and shareholder statements.
- Approve customer bill backs and broker commissions in accordance with marketing promotions.
- Oversee corporate purchases and credit card usage; manage vendor W-9 details and 1099 reporting.
- Supervise the accounts payable for the US&CAN vendors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education and Experience:
- CPA certification or Bachelor's degree in Finance or Business Administration
- 6–8 years of experience in similar roles, preferably in FMCG or consumer distribution companies
- Solid knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance
- Experience working with ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central)
- Strong understanding of current labor, commercial, and tax regulations
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (oral and written)
