TITLE: Job Coach
Special Education Support Staff
OVERVIEW:
The Job Coach supports special education students in real-world community environments, helping them develop vocational, social, and independent living skills. This position assists students under the supervision of a certified special education teacher and collaborates with community partners to ensure inclusive and safe learning experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or 48 college credits preferred.
Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
Ability to remain patient, flexible, and calm in dynamic community settings.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required depending on assignment.
Must be able to lift 30 pounds
REPORTS TO:Teacher(s) assigned
CONFERS WITH:Teacher(s), Specialists, and Building Administrator
JOB GOAL:To support transition aged high school students (ages 18-22) by supporting students with community jobs, functional skills, adaptive skills, independent life skills, and programming as directed.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Support:
Assist students with disabilities in navigating community environments (e.g., transportation, job sites, stores).
Provide one-on-one or small group support to help students develop life skills, such as money handling, communication, time management, and safety awareness.
Support students in vocational training programs or internships, helping them follow instructions, complete tasks, and interact appropriately with coworkers or customers.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with special education staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and transition goals.
Communicate student progress, behavior, and needs to teachers and case managers.
Coordinate with employers, mentors, and community partners to foster a supportive learning environment.
Behavioral Support:
Implement behavior intervention strategies as directed.
Promote positive behavior, independence, and inclusion in public and professional settings.
Safety & Documentation:
Monitor student safety at all times.
Maintain accurate records of student participation, progress, and incidents as required.
Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: To be established by the school board by August 20th.
2025-2026 HOURLY SALARY: starting hourly rate at $18.81
HOUR/DAY: 6.5
SCHOOL YEAR 183 days/year
EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated no less than annually by the building administrator and immediate supervisor(s).
