The Summer Eats Program Intern supports the planning, promotion, and implementation of the
Summer Eats Program. As a returning intern, this position will assist with pre-program
preparation, community outreach, event coordination, and summer activity programming. The
intern will work closely with Food & Nutrition Services staff to help ensure a successful and
engaging experience for participating children and families.
Compensation: $18.00 / hour
Pre-Summer Eats Program Launch Responsibilities
Prior to the start of the Summer Eats Program, the intern will:
- Distribute Summer Eats promotional materials throughout the community, including mealsite flyers and invitations to the Opening Day Celebration.
- Assist with community outreach efforts to increase awareness of Summer Eats mealsites and activities.
- Review and update the Summer Eats activities calendar, incorporating activities andevents that were most successful during the previous summer.
- Organize, inventory, and assess existing activity supplies and materials.
- Identify activity supply needs and develop recommendations for new purchases.
- Prepare and organize an Amazon order for activity materials based on inventory levels and planned summer programming.
- Assist with planning and preparation for the Summer Eats Opening Day Celebration.
- Support event setup, operation, and breakdown for the Opening Day Celebration at Palmer Cove Park.
- Staff the Summer Eats activity booth and engage participants during community events.
Summer Eats Program Responsibilities
Once the Summer Eats Program begins, the intern's primary responsibilities will shift to
supporting daily programming and activities at meal sites. Duties include:
- Work collaboratively with Food & Nutrition Services Activities Interns to plan and implement daily activities.
- Help coordinate, organize, and facilitate engaging activities for children and families.
- Support activity programming at Mary Jane Lee Park and Rainbow Terrace meal sites.
- Encourage participation and foster a welcoming, inclusive, and positive environment for all attendees.
- Assist with activity setup, cleanup, and organization of supplies and materials.
- Serve as a peer leader and resource for new Activities Interns.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Summer Eats Program
