Your role with us

The radiation therapist at Salem Health plays a key role in delivering precise radiation treatments, supporting simulation and treatment planning and ensuring patient safety throughout the care process. This position is a great fit for a compassionate and technically skilled individual with strong attention to detail who can balance clinical accuracy with empathetic patient interaction. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member with experience in radiation oncology workflows, equipment quality assurance and electronic documentation.

What you'll do

  • Simulate and administer radiation treatments per the radiation oncologist's prescription and under the direction of the physicist and dosimetrist, interpret treatment plans and perform simple RadCalc calculations for emergency treatments.
  • Position patients consistently and accurately, construct quality immobilization devices, fabricate custom blocks and apply tattoos using safe needle handling.
  • Complete patient identification per department procedure, safely transfer patients using proper body mechanics, maintain continuous audio and visual monitoring during treatment and observe for side effects, behavior changes or unusual reactions and report findings to the oncologist, nurse or supervisor.
  • Perform imaging as directed by the radiation oncologist, accurately annotate portal images and use digital photography to document treatment positions and field borders.
  • Complete daily machine warm-up and quality assurance checks, practice ALARA principles when imaging and immediately report equipment malfunctions, prescription deviations or red flags to the appropriate supervisor, engineer or physicist.
  • Document daily treatment delivery and services in Aria, accurately charge at the point of service, maintain the daily schedule in Time Planner and include all required elements such as reasons for missed treatments.
  • Coordinate simulation with the clinic, participate in daily chart rounds, team huddles and debriefs following qualifying situations to support continuity of care and safe practice.
  • Maintain a clean treatment environment by completing weekly block room cleaning and HEPA filter checks and documenting results per policy.
  • Function as a collaborative team member by supporting other treatment machines, assuming on-call duty as scheduled, providing clinical instruction to radiation therapy students and assisting with student records, peer review and meetings.

Required qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in radiation therapy.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in radiation therapy, or eligible to obtain within six months of hire for new graduates.
  • Radiation Therapist licensure via the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Additional information
