Your Role With Us:
As a GYN Oncology Physician Associate at Salem Health, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive care to patients in both the outpatient clinic and hospital settings. Working under the direction of a supervising physician, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary health care team to deliver high-quality care, ensuring that each patient receives personalized, expert attention. In this role, you will manage a diverse range of cases, from initial consultations and diagnostic workups to post-procedure follow-ups. Your contributions will include hands-on patient care, patient education and participation in clinical research. This position offers a fulfilling blend of independent patient management and teamwork, allowing you to make a significant impact on the lives of patients navigating breast care and oncology services.
Breast Care Center
We serve and care for more than 400 patients each year, from diagnosis to survivorship. The Breast Care Center is a dedicated space that includes large exam rooms and two procedure rooms to continue to provide high quality, multidisciplinary care from the team which includes a breast surgeon, physician associates, and medical support.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct initial patient assessments, including physical exams, medical histories and diagnostic evaluations.
- Collaborate with the supervising physician and multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Provide education and counseling to patients regarding diagnosis, treatment options and post-procedural care.
- Assist in performing biopsies, minor surgical procedures and post-surgical follow-ups.
- Monitor patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed and provide ongoing management of acute and chronic breast care conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including mammograms, ultrasounds and MRIs, ensuring timely and accurate results.
- Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives to advance care practices and outcomes.
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists or other departments as required for comprehensive care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Attend and contribute to weekly tumor boards, multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
- Stay current with best practices, evidence-based care protocols and emerging trends in breast care and oncology.
Background/Expertise:
- Graduation from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, e.g., CAHEA, CAAHEP.
- One (1) year of experience as a surgical PA preferred.
- Experience in oncology practice preferred.
- Experience in breast care practice preferred.
- Successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE).
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current PA license in good standing issued by the Oregon Medical Board (OMB).
- Maintenance of American Heart Association ACLS certification.
- SA-C (Surgical Assistant – Certified) or obtain within one year of start date.
