Department: Rehabilitation Administration
Position Type: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Non-Exempt
Schedule: 10:00 am - 6:30 pm, Monday - Friday, five 8-hour shifts

Your role with us

As a patient access specialist I at Salem Health, you’ll be the first point of contact for patients at our outpatient rehabilitation facilities, playing a vital role in ensuring their care journey begins smoothly and efficiently. From scheduling appointments to verifying insurance and communicating with clinical teams, your work helps create a seamless experience for every patient. We’re looking for empathetic, detail-oriented professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are passionate about delivering exceptional customer service.

What you'll do

  • Schedule rehab appointments, verify physician orders, and manage authorization needs with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confirm insurance eligibility, collect patient payments, and support financial assistance applications while addressing inquiries professionally.
  • Participate in Lean initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance patient experience.
  • Send and monitor therapy plans of care, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up with referring providers.
  • Provide friendly, professional communication to patients, insurance companies, and clinical staff, ensuring a positive experience at every touchpoint.

Additional information

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in appointment scheduling; healthcare scheduling experience preferred.
  • Proficient keyboarding skills (45 WPM).
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (ICD-10, CPT) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills; medical customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent phone calls and interruptions. Experience with multi-line phones preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
  • Preferred understanding of insurance plans including HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, workers compensation, and other third-party payers.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, a positive attitude, and effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities in a busy, multidisciplinary setting while maintaining productivity and quality.
