Referral Specialist- Limited Duration

Schedule: Four 10- hour shifts, Clinic is closed on weekends and holidays

Your role with us

A diabetes education referral specialist serves as the central coordinator for patient referrals, ensuring provider orders are accurate, insurance eligibility and authorizations are secured and patients are appropriately scheduled for diabetes education services. The role combines referral processing, insurance verification, patient registration, scheduling, and customer service responsibilities while maintaining accurate documentation in Epic and collaborating with providers, patients and clinical teams to support timely access to care and reimbursement compliance.

What you'll do

• Verify physician orders for accuracy and compliance prior to transcription of orders.
• Address any order discrepancies by coordinating communication between provider’s office and Salem Health clinical staff.
• Determine if authorization is required, contacting appropriate individuals or insurance company.
• Insurance verification for registration and appointment reimbursement purposes.
• Use of WorkQue, Fax machine, Epic Inbasket, Rightfax (referral fax Outlook mailbox) to transcribe all faxed referrals to Epic appropriately.
• Completes workque assignments within appropriate timeframes.
• Accurately register patients as well as being able to identify payer authorization requirement.

Required qualifications

• One year of experience in an admitting office, clinic, physician or insurance office performing patient registration and insurance verification.

Additional information

• Previous EPIC Prelude and Cadence experience preferred.
• Keyboarding at 45 wpm and moderate understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (ICD-10 and CPT) preferred.
