As a lab assistant, you play a critical role in supporting timely and accurate patient care. From collecting and processing specimens to managing test orders and maintaining equipment, your attention to detail helps ensure that patients receive the right diagnoses and treatments without delay. You’re often one of the first points of contact for patients, and your professionalism and compassion help create a positive experience during what can be a stressful time. By keeping lab operations running smoothly, you directly contribute to better outcomes for patients and peace of mind for their families.
What you'll do
- Receive, process, sort, and prioritize specimens, including STAT orders.
- Set up microbiology tests, operate and maintain point-of-care (POC) equipment, and troubleshoot issues.
- Register patients, order tests in EPIC, and ensure accurate specimen tracking.
- Greet patients, provide assistance, and direct them to appropriate services.
- Schedule visits, verify insurance, collect payments, and manage patient records in EPIC.
- Answer calls, relay messages, and coordinate referrals with accuracy and professionalism.
- Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Monitor supplies and equipment, ensuring functionality and timely issue resolution.
- Assist with quality assurance, performance improvement, and data collection.
- Provide support to staff and promptly address technical or operational concerns.
Required qualifications
- Experience in team processes, quality management and problem-solving.
Additional information
- The ideal candidate will have one year of related experience in a clinical or medical office setting.
- Prior experience with laboratory information systems and processes is preferred.
