College Bound Certified Teacher

Role: This individual will be responsible to provide instruction, observe and evaluate performance to middle school and high school students.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
•  Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
• Possesses the experience and ability to provide thorough instruction to students who are potential first generation college students.
•  Demonstrates the ability to motivate, intrigue and stimulate students intellectually
•  Exhibit an enthusiastic and creative demeanor while teaching Science.
•  Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.
•  Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate these objectives to students.
• Maintain, accurate, complete and correct student records as required by the NJ GEAR UP Program guidelines
• Maintain accurate, complete and correct student records as required by the NJ GEAR UP Program guidelines.
•  Instructional strategies will include problem-solving skills, critical thinking and collaboration techniques.
•  Works collaboratively with mentors, tutors and counselor.
•  Attend all required meetings regarding NJ GEAR UP and help strategize for the academic and summer enrichment programs
•  All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience                 Experience in middle, secondary or post-secondary education. Minimum of three-five years teaching. Experience                                     specifically in Math/Science

Education                   Bachelor’s degree; teacher’ certificate in Science is required.

Interpersonal Skills    Strong communication and organizational skills

Technical Skills          Working knowledge of current and emerging computer hardware and software, including relevant ERP systems                                         and all Microsoft Office products.

Other Skills

Physical Requirements The work is mostly sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds (e.g., lifting boxes of brochures, carrying books and supplies, setting up exhibits, etc.), driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Environment Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
