Job Summary:  To supervise, plan, develop, and organize the training and orientation for all new nursing staff & students, as well as provide ongoing training for current staff. Act as Safety Officer and supervise employee health.

Essential Functions:  

  • Provide classroom training and evaluation of all new nursing staff (MA, LPN, RN)
    • Epic navigation & essentials of rooming, including quality metric workflows
    • In-Basket functions & patient communication
    • Vaccine & Injection competency
    • Create and update classroom materials
  • Lead and supervise the efforts in maintaining staff’s initial and annual skills competencies. 
  • Provide tutoring and evaluation of staff needing remediation as identified by Nursing Leadership. 
  • Assist with design and implementation of all new Epic nursing workflows.
  • Assist with presentation of new workflows at department meetings. 
  • Maintain current Epic workflows and update as needed. 
  • Ensure staff members are kept up to date on vaccine administration schedules/techniques, etc. 
  • Be an Alert IIS Super User.
  • Arrange and coordinate externships with potential students. Maintain relationships with associated school personnel. 
  • Communicate & Coordinate with the National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) program as MA students are on-boarded and go through the program.
  • Facilitate NIMAA skills labs and externship experiences.
  • Work with Nursing Administration to develop and then hold yearly competency check off sessions
  • Attend and assist with leading Nursing Workflow groups.
  • Attend weekly Nursing Administration meetings.
  • Attend weekly Team Leader meetings and give a training update.
  • Act as Clinic Safety officer
    • Oversight of employee health (COVID screening, Hep B vaccines, TB testing, etc)
    • Review all OJI occurrences
    • Stay up-to-date on OSHA, OHA, and CDC guidelines for safety procedures
    • Annual staff OSHA training
    • Work with safety committee chair person to lead monthly safety meeting.
    • Lead Sharps safety committee
    • Review and maintain all Safety & employee health protocols

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  

  • Possession of an unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License.    
  • A graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Three years of nursing experience. 
  • Current BLS provider card.
  • Knowledge of :
    • Nursing assessment, intervention, and treatment.
    • Examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.   
    • Medications and their effects on patients.  
    • Patient education principles to assist patients in caring for themselves.  
    • Medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care in specific work area.
    • Principles and practices of employee mentoring, training and development.  
    • Common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.  
  • Skill in:
    • Applying and modifying the principles, methods and technique of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.  
    • Preparing and maintaining records. 
    • Developing and maintaining departmental quality assurance.   
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.  Possess good mediating and conflict resolution skills.  
  • Ability to:
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.   
    • Be assertive in a constructive and positive manner.  
    • Supervise the members of a health care team.  
    • React calmly and effectively in emergency situations while directing others. 
    • Interpret, adapt, and apply Salem Clinic guidelines and protocols.  
    • Communicate effectively both in written and oral form.   
    • Take initiative, be self-directed, and work independently.
    • Utilize computer programs necessary for patient care and supervisory duties, access patient related information off the internet, and the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Must have a good understanding of the chosen electronic health record.
