Position Summary
The Admissions Counselor for Salem Academy is responsible for developing and expanding strategic recruitment initiatives to strengthen enrollment pipelines for both boarding and day student populations. The Admissions Counselor will play a key role in growing domestic and international recruitment networks, enhancing relationships with feeder schools and community stakeholders, and supporting enrollment goals through personalized communication, travel, events, and strategic engagement activities. Working collaboratively with key constituents including the Vice President of Enrollment Management, Director of Enrollment Management, and Head of School, this position will help cultivate awareness to meet new student enrollment goals, assist with retention efforts, and advance Salem Academy’s mission by identifying and enrolling prospective students and retaining current students who will thrive within the Academy’s distinctive educational environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent Salem Academy at school visits, recruitment fairs, conferences, community events, and virtual programming opportunities.
- Support relationship-building efforts with current families, alumnae, and community ambassadors to strengthen referral and enrollment networks.
- Communicate regularly with prospective students, families, school counselors, and educational partners through phone, email, virtual meetings, and in-person interactions.
- Coordinate and support recruitment events, campus visit programs, open houses, and yield activities designed to increase enrollment conversion.
- Assist in developing targeted communication and engagement strategies for prospective boarding and day students throughout the admissions cycle.
- Collaborate with leadership to analyze recruitment trends, evaluate outreach effectiveness, and identify opportunities for market expansion.
- Maintain accurate records of recruitment activities, partnerships, and prospective student engagement within the CRM system.
- Work collaboratively with campus partners to ensure a welcoming and supportive admissions experience for prospective students and families.
- Handles, systematically and efficiently, applications and communication with candidates, and their parents/guardians, for admission to the Academy.
- Responsibilities include interviewing candidates and their parents; sharing information regarding admissions testing; securing necessary student credentials for admissions decisions and serving as a member of the Admissions Committee to review applications.
- Oversees student ambassadors and assists with individual visits to campus.
- Helps develop system communications and yield sequences within Slate to move students through the application process.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of Salem Academy’s enrollment goals.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree;
- Working knowledge of the admissions process, including recruitment/yield strategies, territory management, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and admissions cycles;
- Prior success in an admissions or sales-related work environment.
- Superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; must possess the skills to collaborate, communicate and cooperatively work with faculty, staff and administration as well as internal and external stakeholders;
- Strong computer skills to include proficiency with Google suite, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
- Strong written and presentation skills;
- Commitment to the values and environment of an all-girls educational institution and its mission and goals
- Demonstrated ability to exercise effective independent judgment;
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail, professionalism, and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines;
- Ability to deal effectively with confidential information;
- Ability to work extended hours (nights and weekends), as needed;
- Ability to travel extensively; must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
Physical Functions
While performing the responsibilities of the Admissions Counselor the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
