POSITION OBJECTIVE |
The Banquet Lead Captain serves as the on-floor leader for banquet events, ensuring seamless execution, exceptional guest service, and strict adherence to Banquet Event Orders (BEOs). This role acts as the primary liaison between the Banquet Manager, culinary team, and service staff during events. The Lead Captain sets the tone for professionalism, urgency, and hospitality while supporting operational efficiency and team development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS |
- Lead banquet service teams during assigned events including breakfast, lunch, dinner, receptions, and specialty functions.
- Review and execute BEOs to ensure accurate room setup, timing, menu execution, and service flow.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate event details, service expectations, and assignments.
- Direct servers, bartenders, and housepersons during event setup, execution, and breakdown.
- Ensure meals are served professionally, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Circulate throughout events to monitor guest satisfaction and proactively resolve concerns.
- Maintain consistent communication with the culinary team regarding timing and special requests.
- Ensure all banquet spaces are maintained according to brand presentation and cleanliness standards.
- Mentor and coach banquet servers and support staff in service techniques and professionalism.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
- Assist with staffing assignments and adjustments during events.
- Monitor proper use and care of banquet equipment and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations.
- Report operational issues, guest feedback, and staffing concerns to the Banquet Manager.
- Assist with inventory controls and requisitions as directed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE |
- Minimum 1–2 years of banquet captain or supervisory experience in a hotel, resort, country club, or high-volume event venue preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on food and beverage service experience required.
- Experience leading teams during large-scale events preferred.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) beneficial.
- TIPS or other alcohol service certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
REQUIREMENTS |
- Ability to read and follow banquet event orders (BEOs).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
- Ability to work efficiently under time constraints and changing priorities.
- Professional appearance and demeanor at all times- including provided nametags and company pin.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS |
- Ability to operate standard banquet equipment and POS systems.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Capable of working in a highly active role involving constant movement across as 40-acre property.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 60 pounds regularly.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
- Ability to move and arrange heavy furniture and equipment safely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT |
- Fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and time-sensitive setups.
- Exposure to noise, crowds, and varying temperatures depending on event location.
- Must be able to change activity frequently and cope with interruptions.
- Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment, communicate with others, effectively handle/ assist customers and accept constructive criticism from supervisors.
- Requires coordination with multiple departments, including Banquets, Catering, Housekeeping, and Engineering.

Employer-provided Basic Life Insurance and Basic AD&D are provided after 90 days of employment. 401K eligibility is available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment, part-time employees can qualify to participate in a 401(k) plan after two consecutive years of working at least 500 hours.
