Position Introduction

The Building Services Floater is responsible for completing daily recycling and trash pickups, large deliveries, event support, and executing campus office moves, including furniture, records and supplies, and the relocation of furniture as needed throughout campus.

Job Description

The Building Services Floater is responsible for completing daily recycling and trash pickups and large deliveries as needed throughout campus, and include filling in as needed to perform custodial work, including: mopping, stripping and/or finishing floors, cleaning areas requiring use of ladder, operating heavy cleaning equipment, rodent and pest control and moving furniture or classroom building materials.

The Building Services Floater is responsible for providing event support for College events. Support includes transporting, delivering, and storing event related equipment for campus events. Event set up and tear down activities shall include but is not limited to table and chairs set up, audio visual, flags, risers, floor tarps, pipe and drape. The floater will execute campus office moves, including furniture, records and supplies, and the relocation of furniture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull heavy items (50 – 75 pounds), including furniture and heavy boxes.
  • Ability to operate heavy cleaning equipment.
  • Assemble and lift objects up to 30 pounds overhead routinely.
  • Ability to climb ladders to reach high places.
  • Ability to withstand physical exertion involving walking, lifting, climbing, and crawling on a daily basis.
  • Ability to operate a forklift. Receives annual training on use of fork lift.
  • Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions including heat, rain, sleet, and snow.
  • Ability to read and understand written work orders for special events as well as understand diagrams for placement of items for an event.
  • Good verbal skills. A floater is an ambassador to the College on behalf of the Building and Campus Service Departments.
  • Possess flexibility to adjust to changes in work situations.
  • Fills in as needed in buildings and performs custodial work, including washing interior and exterior windows.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required within the department.
  • Possess organizational skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Understand and follow safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior related job experience (1-2 years).
  • Training or prior experience in areas related to primary job duties.
  • Experience in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Risk management (Blood-Borne Pathogens, Personal Protective Equipment, Ladder Safety, etc) and safety training, trained and certified in Fork Lift operations.

Schedule

40 Hours/ 12 Months/ Monday – Friday
