Description
The Athletic Trainer will serve as a member of our Athletic Training staff in the full operation of the sports medicine program.
The role involves applying therapeutic techniques, modalities, and exercises to support the rehabilitation and prevention of athletic injuries, along with evaluating injuries, managing care, and making referrals when necessary. This includes working closely with the Team Physician and other professionals to determine injury severity and appropriate return-to-play timelines, as well as administering first aid and emergency treatment when needed. Responsibilities also include supervising practices and games for varsity athletic teams and serving as the designated Athletics Healthcare Administrator (AHCA), ensuring compliance with all relevant NCAA health and safety regulations and inter-association guidelines.
In addition, the position supports the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries while collaborating with a co-Athletic Trainer and Team Physician to provide comprehensive healthcare for all varsity teams. Effective communication with coaches, athletes, and support staff is essential, along with maintaining accurate medical records, injury reports, and documentation through systems such as EMR and HealthyRoster. The role also involves coordinating pre-participation physicals, baseline testing, and medical screenings, ensuring that all student-athletes have appropriate insurance coverage, and facilitating communication with athletic insurance providers.
Further duties include providing medical coverage at home contests and practices, updating coaching staff on athletes’ health status, assisting with insurance claims, and contributing to the development and maintenance of sports medicine policies aligned with NCAA and NATA standards. The position also supports the supervision of student employees within the athletic training staff and collaborates on creating medical questionnaires and documentation processes. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Team Physician and athletic leadership as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in athletic training or a closely allied discipline. (Masters is preferred, but not required)
- Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC).
- Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Indiana.
- Must be First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
- Current Member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current certifications American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
- Experience working with a diverse student population.
- Planning, communication, organization, implementation, and critical thinking skills.
- Competency in computer skills for file management (Healthy Roster, ….) and sports medicine platforms.
- EMR experience and usage.
Schedule
10 Months/ Full Time/ August to May
