HOUSING DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Housing Department at Saint John’s plays a vital role in advancing our mission to provide a safe space for women and children to heal and develop the skills necessary to transform their lives. We recognize that stable housing is the foundation upon which recovery, healing, and long-term independence are built.
Operating under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Housing Department delivers housing-focused support that bridge the gap between crisis and long-term stability. Our team provides CalAIM Community Supports, including the Housing Trio and Transitional Rent, ensuring participants receive the assistance needed to secure and maintain stable housing. We also operate Saint John's Square, a modular housing community designed to provide transitional homes for individuals and families as they work toward long-term stability, and we administer targeted rental assistance programs that help prevent returns to homelessness.
Embedded deeply within the fabric of Saint John’s, the Housing Department works collaboratively across all programs- Behavioral Health, Workforce Development, Family Services and others—and connects participants with a wide network of external partners. This integrated approach ensures that housing is not viewed in isolation, but as a critical component of holistic healing and generational change.

About the Position…
The Housing Services Director provides leadership and oversight for Saint John’s Program for Real Change’s Housing Programs: Housing Assistance Program, Saint John’s Square Transitional Living Facility, and our new CalAIM Community Supports Programs. The Director’s ultimate goal is to ensure that housing programs successfully integrate supportive services and housing components to stabilize and improve housing, income, and health outcomes of SJP’s clients.
The Director is responsible for the administration and supervision of all components of SJP’s housing services. This includes developing protocols, policies, and procedures, managing community and contractual relationships, supervising housing program staff, ensuring compliance with payer and regulatory requirements, and driving excellent outcomes. Additionally, the Director is responsible for limited case management of clients while growing and stabilizing our new Community Supports Programs, and in the event of staffing gaps.
You’ll be responsible for…
Program Oversight and Leadership:
- Oversees SJP’s CalAIM housing programs, Housing Assistance Program, and Saint John’s transitional housing community.
- Ensures that housing programs successfully integrate supportive services and housing components to stabilize and improve housing, income, and health outcomes of clients.
- Develops and leads relationships with key community referral partners and housing facilities.
- Ensures compliance with housing program’s contractual requirements, funding streams, and organizational policies and guidelines.
- Ensures funder contractual performance expectations are met and/or exceeded.
- Serves as the point of contact with funders, professionally and favorably representing SJP.
- Develops, implements, and monitors policies, procedures, and outcomes, identifying and implementing quality improvement measures to maximize the program’s impact.
- Ensures all documentation is correctly completed, including but not limited to within the HMIS system and SJP’s selected housing case management platform.
- Oversees SJP’s housing case management system vendor(s).
Case Management:
- Manage cases in the event of overflow or staff out of office time.
- Works collaboratively with clients and other community resources to meet/achieve client needs and identified goals and objectives.
- On-duty assignments providing crisis intervention, resources, and referrals.
- Complete treatment plans, assessments, progress notes, monthly reports, exit paperwork, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Attend annual training courses required to receive your CAS Assessor Certification and HMIS Certification
Relationships with Community Partners and Departments:
- Using deep community connections, develops and maintains relationships with key community partners.
- Drives and maintains stable referrals to the SJP housing program to result in the financial sustainability of the program.
- Facilitates inter-departmental coordination between SJP programs serving housing program clients, including but not limited to the behavioral health and justice-involved (FCRP) teams.
Staff Supervision:
- Manages housing program staff.
- Provides regular and appropriate feedback and supervision, including training, opportunities for professional growth, regular evaluation, and verbal and written improvement plans when needed.
- Ensures timely submission of MCP authorization requests and accurate submission of claims.
- Ensures that the Saint John’s Square residential handbook is adhered to and communicates regularly with program staff regarding any behavioral issues affecting the community
Fiscal Management:
- Assisting in the creation of housing program budgets, ensures that programs operate within such approved budgets.
- Works with Accounting team to monitor and ensure that CalAIM and grant receivables are accurate and complete.
You must have...
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5 years of experience in the human services, social work, or supportive housing field
- Expert organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Expert in Microsoft Suite
- Strong management and leadership abilities, including the ability to mentor and train staff
- Fluent in English language (spoken and written)
- Proficient knowledge of email, copiers, fax, and internet
- An incredible passion for our mission
- Skilled in using Excel and HMIS for data organization, analysis, and reporting.
- Required License/ Certifications: LCSW or RN
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical requirements for performing the essential functions of this position require the employee to be able to:
- Standing/walking approximately 20% and sitting 80% of the time
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear and respond to simple and sometimes critical messages exchanged in noisy/high traffic areas.
- Approximately 20% of this role will include local and regional travel for community and partnership development

- Licensure as a LCSW
- Experience working within CalAIM programs or similar Medi-Cal initiatives is highly desirable
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR), HMIS, referral tracking systems, and program data tools is highly desirable
- Fluency in Spanish language (spoken and written)
