Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy is currently seeking a short-term substitute teacher for a second grade classroom from the beginning of November through the end of December.

Position Overview:
We are looking for a short-term second grade substitute teacher who will be responsible for delivering a developmentally appropriate and engaging curriculum that emphasizes Catholic values, literacy, mathematics, and social-emotional learning. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children and a commitment to creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, implement, and assess a comprehensive 2nd grade curriculum that aligns with school and state standards, while incorporating Catholic teachings.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom atmosphere that supports the academic, emotional, and social development of all students.
Incorporate a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of children.
Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school events.
Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to implement school-wide initiatives and enrich students’ educational experience.
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in education.
Support the spiritual development of students through prayer, participation in Mass, and faith-based activities.
Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior in accordance with school policies.
Ensure a safe and clean classroom environment, adhering to health and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field preferred
Previous experience teaching or working with young children in an educational setting.
Knowledge of child development, early childhood education principles, and effective classroom management techniques.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
A commitment to Catholic education and the ability to model and integrate Catholic values in the classroom.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in urban education settings.
Familiarity with diverse learning needs and differentiated instruction.
Bilingual skills are beneficial (Spanish, Haitian creole, Vietnamese, etc.).
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure or Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) certification preferred
Salary : $18 - $20
