Per Diem School Nurse (RN)
Saint Bridget School | Abington, Massachusetts
Saint Bridget School is seeking a caring, dependable Registered Nurse (RN) to join our school community as a Per Diem School Nurse.
This is an excellent opportunity for an RN who enjoys working with children and is looking for flexible, school-day nursing opportunities. Full-day and half-day shifts are available based on school needs and nurse availability.
Compensation & Schedule
- Full-Day Shift: 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. — $210.00
- Morning Half-Day Shift: 8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. — $105.00
- Afternoon Half-Day Shift: 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. — $105.00
- This is a per diem, non-benefited position.
- Full-day and half-day opportunities are available based on school staffing needs and nurse availability.
- The number and frequency of shifts may vary throughout the school year.
- No minimum number of days or shifts is guaranteed.
- Current openings on Mondays and Fridays
Responsibilities
The Per Diem School Nurse will:
- Provide nursing care and first aid to students who become ill or injured during the school day.
- Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate follow-up care.
- Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, parent/guardian authorization, student health plans, and school procedures.
- Provide care for students with chronic health conditions, including allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, and other medical needs.
- Monitor and support students with diabetes in accordance with established individual health care plans.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency medical services when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health and medication records.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student illnesses, injuries, medications, and other health concerns.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel regarding student health needs while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Follow established individual health care and emergency plans.
- Assist with student health screenings and other school health responsibilities as needed.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and appropriately stocked school health office.
- Monitor medications, medical supplies, and emergency equipment.
- Complete required health, medication, accident, and injury documentation.
- Follow Saint Bridget School emergency procedures and health and safety protocols.
- Perform other school health-related responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current and unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Strong nursing assessment and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a school health office
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies
- Ability to maintain confidential student health information and records
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric, school nursing, emergency, community health, or related nursing experience
- Experience working with school-age children
- Experience managing diabetes, including blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and responding to diabetic emergencies, is a plus
- Familiarity with Massachusetts school health practices and requirements
