Agent Development Director

Our client is seeking an experienced Agent Development Director to lead revenue growth across its transportation and brokerage network. This is a highly strategic role focused on expanding agent partnerships while driving new customer freight opportunities that support long-term network profitability. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of both capacity development and customer acquisition, with the ability to build scalable partnerships and sustainable revenue streams.


This position is best suited for a business-minded professional who can balance relationship management, market strategy, and sales execution—not simply someone focused on transactional selling.


Location: Remote (Candidates must reside in the Midwest—ideally Chicago, Milwaukee, Des Moines, or Minneapolis)


Travel: Varies based on territory coverage and partnership development needs


Position Overview

The Agent Development Director plays a critical role in driving both network expansion and customer growth. This individual will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, and developing high-performing agents and fleet owners while also securing new customer business that ensures strong freight flow across the network. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of logistics operations, market trends, pricing strategy, and competitive positioning. Rather than simply filling freight lanes or adding agents, this leader will strategically align customer demand with network capacity to create long-term, profitable growth. This role requires someone who can evaluate regional opportunities, identify high-value partnerships, and build a transportation network designed for scale and sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, and develop successful agents and fleet owners with full ownership of revenue generation across the assigned network
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of agent prospects based on regional market opportunities and strategic growth plans
  • Manage the full customer sales cycle, including prospecting, relationship development, pricing discussions, contract negotiation, and closing new business
  • Create consistent freight opportunities that attract, engage, and retain high-quality capacity partners
  • Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, and competitor activity to support strategic decision-making for both customer acquisition and agent development
  • Maintain accurate and timely CRM reporting, including daily updates for pipeline visibility, forecasting, and performance tracking
  • Collaborate with operations, pricing, and leadership teams to ensure customer commitments align with operational capabilities
  • Develop long-term, value-driven partnerships with both customers and agents to strengthen network performance
  • Align freight opportunities with capacity strategy to maximize profitability and network efficiency
  • Travel as needed to support business development, close opportunities, and strengthen key relationships


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Proven experience within transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or agent-based sales environments
  • Strong track record of driving revenue growth through consultative selling, strategic partnerships, and network expansion
  • Experience managing the full sales process from prospecting through negotiation and final contract execution
  • Understanding of independent agent networks, fleet owners, carriers, and the factors that drive long-term partner retention
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, reporting platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience with demonstrated success in revenue growth roles
  • Experience within flatbed, brokerage, or multi-modal transportation environments
  • Strong strategic selling skills with the ability to align customer opportunities to long-term capacity planning and network development goals

Salary : $90,000 - $140,000
