SAI Mental Health is a behavioral health organization dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care in Northern Nevada. Serving adolescents and adults, SAI Mental Health offers both outpatient and residential programs tailored to individual needs on their healing journey. Services include individual, group, and family therapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management, TMS, adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and substance abuse counseling. The residential treatment center focuses on trauma-informed care, DBT and CBT modalities, and personalized care for adolescents needing 24/7 support. Every service is guided by the mission to restore hope, strengthen families, and empower meaningful, healthy lives.


Role Description


The Behavioral Health Therapist / IOP Coordinator & Facilitator plays a key clinical and program-coordination role within SAI Mental Health’s adolescent outpatient service line. This position is responsible for providing direct therapeutic services, coordinating the adolescent Co-Occurring Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), conducting initial assessments and treatment planning, providing family orientation to IOP services, and delivering school-based therapeutic interventions through SAI’s partnership with the Washoe County School District (WCSD).

The therapist will facilitate DBT-based curriculum groups, complete all required documentation, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure high-quality, trauma-informed, culturally responsive care is provided to all adolescents and families served.


This is a contract hybrid role with some flexibility for remote work.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


1. IOP Coordination & Patient Onboarding

• Conduct IOP orientation for adolescent clients and their families, providing clear explanation of:

• Program expectations

• Attendance requirements

• DBT curriculum structure

• Confidentiality, safety planning, and communication protocols

• Complete initial intake assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, and diagnostic formulations according to SAI standards and Nevada administrative code.

• Develop and finalize initial treatment plans with measurable goals, client/family participation, and clinically indicated interventions.

• Schedule clients for IOP programming and coordinate with administrative and clinical staff to ensure smooth entry to services.

• Identify safety-risk concerns and initiate crisis/risk assessments, safety plans, and referrals as needed.



2. IOP Group Facilitation (Adolescent Co-Occurring IOP)

• Facilitate two (2) weekly three-hour IOP group sessions for adolescents receiving co-occurring (mental health substance use) treatment.

• Deliver a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)–focused curriculum, including modules such as:

• Mindfulness

• Emotion Regulation

• Distress Tolerance

• Interpersonal Effectiveness

• Substance use coping, relapse prevention, and skill-building

• Maintain a structured, consistent therapeutic environment that reinforces skills practice, emotional safety, accountability, and engagement.

• Provide brief individual check-ins and crisis intervention as needed during IOP sessions.

• Track client participation, group progress, skill acquisition, and behavioral changes.



3. School-Based Therapy Services (WCSD Partnership)

• Provide in-person therapeutic services to middle-school students referred through the Washoe County School District Counseling Department.

• Address concerns such as:

• High-risk mental health symptoms

• Attendance difficulties

• Behavioral challenges

• Peer conflict

• Family stressors

• Crisis or safety concerns

• Deliver trauma-informed individual therapy sessions on school campuses as scheduled.

• Collaborate with WCSD counseling staff, administrators, and SAI clinical leadership to coordinate care, share non-confidential progress updates, and support student wellbeing.

• Participate in school-based multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate.

• Maintain professional boundaries, privacy, FERPA/HIPAA compliance, and culturally responsive practices.



4. Clinical Documentation & Compliance

• Complete all required documentation (assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, group notes, coordination of care, discharge summaries) within required timeframes.

• Ensure records meet standards for:

• CARF Behavioral Health

• Medicaid / managed care

• SAI internal policy & quality assurance

• Nevada HCQC/NRS/NAC

• Participate in internal audits, quality improvement processes, and chart reviews.

• Maintain accurate schedules, logs, and reports related to IOP attendance and school-based sessions.



5. Collaboration, Communication & Professionalism

• Maintain regular communication with caregivers, referral sources, case managers, and other providers.

• Participate in weekly treatment-team meetings, clinical supervision, and case consultations.

• Collaborate with SAI’s IOP team, outpatient clinicians, and administrative support to ensure continuity of care.

• Uphold trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, family-centered, and strengths-based practices at all times.

• Uphold SAI’s mission, values, and commitment to safe, ethical, evidence-based care.


Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Clinical Counseling, Psychology, or related mental-health field.

• Active Nevada license: LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, CSW-Intern, MFT-Intern, CPC-Intern, or equivalent.

• Experience with adolescents and/or co-occurring disorders preferred.

• Training or familiarity with DBT; willingness to learn and follow DBT-oriented curricula.

• Strong clinical formulation, crisis assessment, documentation, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently at school sites and collaboratively within the SAI clinical team.

• Ability to maintain professionalism and boundaries in dynamic school and clinical environments.
