Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Provide part-time secretarial support for the Office of Accessibility Resources and Accommodations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as point of contact for the Office Accessibility Resources and Accommodations.
  • Greet visitors and answer the phone with a satisfactory level of customer service, ascertaining the nature of the request to direct visitors/callers to the appropriate person or department/office.
  • Provide information on policies and procedures to students, faculty, various administrative offices, and the general public.
  • Assist with arrangements for any alternative testing required by accommodations, including ensuring appropriate conditions for testing environment, maintaining security, instructing students on the proper use of program software utilized in testing room, and administering tests.
  • Assist in providing textbooks in alternate formats, as needed, including ordering or scanning.
  • Perform budgetary assistance for departmental accounts by preparing checks and purchase requisitions, graphic request forms, etc.
  • Arrange for the ordering of office supplies and maintain appropriate follow-up of departmental records for such transactions.
  • Input, process, and manipulate data using various software, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, database, and electronic communications.
  • Maintain Accessibility Resources and Accommodations generic e-mail and voicemail accounts.
  • Maintain office files and records, including provisions for confidential records, and the security/confidentiality of the University.
  • Schedule appointments for all staff members, updating electronic calendars as appropriate.
  • Organize and maintain schedules for meetings or events in departmental conference room.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Direct supervision is received from the Director of Accessibility Resources and Accommodations. Additional work assignments/direction and guidance may be provided by other departmental staff.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Limited guidance for student workers' tasks in the Office of Accessibility Resources and Accommodations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with additional education, training or certification in a related field.
  • Three years of job-related clerical experience, preferably in higher education, including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, basic math skills, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and interpersonal skills to interface with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Personal computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite) and ability to learn specialized software programs, including web development.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate professionally with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Excellent proofreading and accuracy skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and accept direction from multiple and diverse staff/faculty members.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and expedite workload, working under occasional time pressure.
  • Ability to occasionally handle differing, non-routine work situations and problems by exercising independent judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of files and records.
  • Ability to learn technical/discipline-specific terminology.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
