POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Director, this position performs a wide variety of grounds maintenance work. Performs additional work as required and provides assistance to other maintenance employees as assigned by immediate supervisor. There are no supervisory duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily outdoor work environment with intermittent indoor work assignments. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Moderate exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease and gases. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hazards include: working around and with machinery having moving parts, working on ladders, hazardous chemicals and fumes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Regular, in-person attendance required
  • Punctual with a demonstrated good attendance record
  • Willing to work flexible hours with each season
  • Ability to repetitively lift 50 pounds
  • Capable of climbing a ladder
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasks
  • Basic methods employed in building, grounds and maintenance work
  • Safe driving techniques
  • Safe and efficient procedures for truck loading and delivery
  • Health and safety regulations related to assigned duties
  • Methods, materials and equipment of stadium athletic fields
  • Methods, procedures, materials, tools and equipment used in the grounds maintenance
  • Health department and safety regulation policies related to commercial pools
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Basic record-keeping techniques
  • Demonstrate ability to use a computer for work orders and e-mail communication
  • Ability to relate to and cooperate with staff, students, outside contractors, and the general public

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE

  • Maintains school site turf using Toro Z Master mowing equipment cutting machines.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to all grounds power equipment.
  • Capable of operating and maintaining small grounds equipment, weed whip, power trimmer, sidewalk edger, leaf blower, and chain saw.
  • Operates a pallet jack.
  • Operates tractor mounted aerator, top dressing and slit seeding machines.
  • Maintains sports turf areas.
  • Prunes/trims trees and bushes throughout the district.
  • Knowledgeable in the planting of bushes, plant material and trees.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of various ground cover material.

SNOW AND ICE WINTER MAINTENANCE

  • Operates a 4 x 4 truck to plow snow from sidewalks.
  • Operates a 4 x 4 truck to apply salt from tailgate mounted applicator.
  • Maintains truck mounted snow plow and salting equipment, including repetitive lifting and moving bags of salt.
  • Operates and maintains a walk behind snow blower.

CUSTODIAL/OTHER

  • Starting times vary with the season.
  • Prepares athletic fields for games.
  • Maintain and organize grounds storage area.
  • Maintain storm water catch basins.
  • Assist with district wide paper delivery, including repetitive lifting and moving of cases of paper.
  • Assist with district wide genie lift delivery.
  • Other tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of equipment.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping or crouching.
  • Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
  • Climbing ladders and working from heights.
  • Seeing to perform assigned grounds and aquatic duties.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects up 100 pounds with assistance.


HOURS/PAY

  • 8 hours per day (260 work days/year, year-round employment)
  • Primarily day shift (6:30a - 3:00p)
  • $15.81- $17.34 per hour based on experience.
  • Medical Insurance, employee contribution 12-14% cost depending on single, two person, or family, BCBSM PPO, no annual deductible, $20 office visit, Rx $10, $20, $50
  • Dental and vision benefits available (Employees new to the district pay 10.0% of cost)
  • $45,000 Life and Long Term Disability Insurance provided

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, which may include bending, twisting, reaching, pushing or pulling, lifting and carrying materials or equipment up to approximately 40 pounds, and standing or walking for extended periods of time.
