Mental Health Therapist IV - Outpatient Services

Pay Range: $70,019.03 - 87,286.82 annually 

$6,000 Recruitment Bonus for Clinical Master level new hires!! ($2,000 paid at start, $2,000 paid after 3 months, and $2,000 paid after successful probation period.)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Under general supervision of Mental Health Supervisor (Outpatient Services), provides psychotherapy to adults, children and adolescents seeking mental/behavioral health services including substance use disorders and their families for Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA). Completes screenings and thorough assessments. Formulates and implements a person-centered/self-directed treatment plan and documents services provided and progress achieved. This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support culturally competent/sensitive, recovery-based practices; person centered planning as a shared decision-making process with the individual, who defines his/her life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumer in the recovery process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

1.   Provides clinical and supportive counseling services; individual, group and family therapy in a trauma informed, recovery oriented, short-term, person centered, solution focused manner.

2. Facilitates psycho-educational classes and/or groups such as parenting skills, independent living skills, anger management, behavior management, substance abuse, etc.

3. Facilitates various support groups based on community need.

4. Provides primary case holder services, as assigned including assessment, treatment plan development, formal reviews, information gathering, referrals and linkages, where appropriate. Coordinate services with other professionals and liaison with outside social service agencies and other organizations.

5. Interviews consumer and others to obtain data concerning personal, social, and emotional history of consumer. Assesses and provides diagnosis as appropriate.

6. Formulates treatment plan from data gathered at initial interviews from all available sources.

7. Will provide back-up for the Centralized Access and Intake Department to complete intakes for individuals when needed.

8. Advocates for consumers needs and makes appropriate referrals for medical evaluation, psychological testing to the assigned Support Coordinator/Case Manager or other agencies when mandated or when appropriate, including Department of Human Services (DHS), Health Department, hospitals, etc.

9. Prepares documentation (assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, forms, logs). Maintains records on progress and evaluation. Prepares required reports. Completes billing/progress notes as stated in the staff standards.

10. Interacts with other units of SCCMHA and coordinates treatment with DHS and other agencies when the need arises.

11. Development and implementation of support and/or therapeutic groups using evidence-based practices.

12. Development or research of pre/post and/or evaluation tools that are appropriate for measurement of consumer progress and satisfaction.

13. Completes educational presentations in community workshops and events.

14. Continued education and training requirements to remain abreast of all updated and new evidence based therapeutic interventions.

15. Adheres to the mission, vision, core values, and operating principles of SCCMHA at all times.


INCIDENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Attends cases consultation meetings and staff meetings and rounds.

2. May participate in Quality Improvement functions.

3. May address community groups or organizations.

4. Attends in-service training, seminars, conferences, and workshops in order to sustain professional competency.

5. Reacts productively to change and handles other essential tasks as assigned.

Reports to:    Mental Health Supervisor (Outpatient Services) 

Supervises:    None


WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:

Works in clinic and community settings with adults, children and adolescents seeking mental/behavioral health services including substance use disorders and their families. Utilizes computer for documentation, data collection, spreadsheets, etc. May have contact with consumers who may have a communicable disease, and who may be hostile, aggressive, and/or potentially violent. Requires travel to multiple locations, sometimes in bad weather.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:      Master’s degree in a mental health related field from an accredited school.

Experience:   A minimum of one (1) year in experience in human services.

Licenses and Credentials:    Valid Michigan Driver’s license with a good driving record.

A limited licensed master’s social worker (LLMSW), licensed master’s social worker (LMSW), limited licensed professional counselor (LLPC), licensed professional counselor (LPC), limited licensed marriage and family therapist (LLMFT), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), limited licensed psychologist (LLP) and licensed psychologist (LP).

**Completion of Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) within two years of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:    

1. Knowledge of mental illness developmental disabilities, psychology, social work, and mental health programs.

2. Ability to function independently and to communicate effectively in both verbal and written format.

3. Ability to work in crisis situations with considerable stress.

4. Ability to understand individuals from all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

5. Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

Physical/Mental Requirements:    

1. Hearing acuity to converse in person and on telephone.

2. Visual Acuity to observe consumers behavior, read and proofread documents and use EHR and other electronic devices.

3. Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.

4. Manual dexterity to write and to operate standard office equipment (PC, Keyboard, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, etc.)

5. Ability to lift and carry files and supplies at least 20 pounds.

6. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, consumers, and the general public.

7. Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze, and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action.

8. Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time.

9. Ability to handle stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or consumers.
