Job Summary
The Environmental Services Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of floors throughout the hospital. Duties include sweeping, mopping, buffing, waxing, and using specialized floor care equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The Floor Technician adheres to infection control and safety protocols and assists with moving equipment and furniture as necessary.

The Floor Technician adheres to infection control and safety protocols and assists with moving equipment and furniture as necessary.
Essential Functions
- Perform routine floor care maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, buffing, and waxing floors in patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, and other areas.
- Operate floor care equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and extractors to maintain floors according to established protocols.
- Inspect assigned areas upon completion to ensure cleanliness and report any maintenance or safety hazards.
- Assist with moving and arranging furniture and equipment to facilitate floor cleaning and maintenance.
- Apply appropriate cleaning agents and disinfectants, following safety and infection control protocols.
- Maintain and store floor care equipment and supplies in a clean, organized, and secure manner.
- Follow all OSHA guidelines for the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazardous materials.
- Respond promptly to cleaning requests and spills to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
- Complete daily logs and documentation of cleaning activities and tasks completed.
- Assist in training new floor care staff and provide support to other Environmental Services team members as needed.
- Knowledge of floor care techniques, equipment, and cleaning agents.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow cleaning protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of infection control and safety procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment and supplies.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role. (Preferred)

- Minimum of 1 year of floor care experience in a hospital or similar environment preferred.
