Our Spend-A-Day Adult Day Medical Program, established over 50 years ago as the first of its kind in New Jersey, provides a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for older adults who require assistance with daily living while remaining in their homes. The program also offers essential respite and support to families and caregivers.
Position Summary
We are seeking an energetic, compassionate, and creative Assistant Activities Coordinator to join our interdisciplinary team.
This role is essential in enhancing participants’ quality of life through the planning and delivery of engaging social, cognitive, and physical activities tailored to a wide range of abilities, including individuals with dementia and other chronic conditions.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Development & Implementation
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to design, plan, and implement daily activity programming
- Facilitate five days per week (no weekends, evenings or holidays) of structured activities, including:
- Arts & crafts
- Cognitive stimulation
- Exercise and movement programs
- Educational sessions
- Special events and themed programming
- Adapt activities to meet varying cognitive and physical functioning levels
- Provide group and individualized programming, including one-to-one engagement
Participant Engagement & Support
- Supervise participants to ensure safety, dignity, and engagement
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as needed
- Support participants’ emotional and social well-being
- Uphold and protect participant rights at all times
Program Evaluation & Quality Improvement
- Evaluate activity programs to:
- Enhance participant quality of life
- Meet program and regulatory goals
- Gather participant and caregiver feedback
- Identify opportunities for program innovation and improvement
- Assist in development and updating of care plans related to activities programming
Administrative & Team Collaboration
- Prepare and distribute monthly activity calendars
- Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings
- Maintain accurate documentation as required
- Support a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Adhere to all organizational policies and regulatory requirements
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Human Services, Social Work, or related field
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Preferred
- Experience in an adult day medical program
- Experience working with:
- Older adults with physical limitations
- Individuals with dementia or cognitive impairments
- Families and caregivers
- Certification such as:
- CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist)
- CDP (Certified Dementia Practitioner)
