We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support attorneys handling active personal injury litigation in Ohio courts. This role is ideal for someone who understands the pace and structure of plaintiff-side personal injury and is comfortable managing deadlines.
Position Overview
The Legal Assistant role will assist attorneys from intake through the filing of a complaint through discovery, case evaluation, facilitation/mediation, and trial preparation. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously, and familiarity with Ohio court rules and e-filing procedures.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage a personal injury caseload from intake through resolution
- Send letters of representation and open claims with insurance carriers
- Order and review medical records and bills
- Track treatment progress and identify gaps in care
- Monitor MedPay and insurance-related claims
- Follow up with adjusters on liability and coverage
- Gather supporting documentation (police reports, witness statements, etc.)
- Prepare and assemble demand packages
- Submit demands and track settlement negotiations
- Coordinate liens and outstanding balances
- Draft, format, and file pleadings, motions, notices, and legal correspondence
- Assist attorneys with Ohio court e-filing systems and court filings
- Track and monitor litigation deadlines, scheduling orders, and statute of limitations
- Coordinate and schedule depositions, hearings, case evaluation, facilitation/mediation, and court appearances
- Assist with discovery preparation, including: Interrogatories, Requests for Production, Requests to Admit
- Subpoenas and medical record subpoenas
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel
- Organize medical records, exhibits, and evidence for litigation
- Assist attorneys with case evaluation summaries
- Maintain accurate notes and updates in the firm’s case management software
Qualifications
- 7-10 years of personal injury pre-litigation experience (plaintiff side preferred)
- Experience handling cases from intake through resolution
- Strong understanding of insurance claims and adjuster communication
- Ohio personal injury experience required
- High School Diploma required (Paralegal Certificate or degree preferred)
