JOB TITLE: Assistant Coach
REPORTS TO: Head Coach and/or Athletic Director
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To provide each student an opportunity to participate in athletics and develop physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, knowledge and understanding of the sport and principles of fair play.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Determines athletic eligibility per Athletic Director request.

Assists in the maintaining of inventory.

Supervises and instructs athletes during practice, competition, in locker rooms, and on activity buses.

Becomes knowledgeable of fundamentals and rules of the sport being coached.

Supervises the care and treatment of athletic injuries.

Keeps parents, students, faculty and local media informed.

Attends District meetings and clinics.

Keeps updated by reading current literature and/or attending clinics when deemed appropriate.

Maintains all equipment used in assigned sport according to health and safety standards.

Carries out coaching duties in harmony with all schools, athletic association and conference policies.

Helps maintain and secure all facilities (gym, locker rooms, training and equipment rooms, etc.) as applicable.

Conducts self in an honorable, professional manner.

Conducts an annual parent night in which goals, rules, etc., are communicated to parents or, with administrative approval, utilizes an appropriate written communication.

Conferences with parents, teachers, and the Principal as needed regarding an athlete's behavior and academic performance.

Teaches Pursuing Victory With Honor lifestyle issues ranging from dehydration to tobacco use.

Makes sure all District and school athletic codes are complied with. Reports violators to the appropriate administrator.

Is certified in CPR and completes the new NFHS fundamentals of coaching course.

Assists the head coach in all of the above areas and performs other tasks as assigned by the head coach.
