What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front End Cashier/Customer Service position at Safeway?
- Staff the front end registers of the store while performing other tasks to provide world class customer service to all customers in need of assistance. (Greeting, engaging in conversation, providing selling suggestions, talking up current Safeway Promotions, and a friendly parting comment to create a well rounded, welcoming experience to our clientele.)
- Accurately ringing up all items during each transaction and collecting payment for processing through the electronic point of sale system. (Handling items of various weights and sizes, scanning all barcodes, manually entering miscellaneous items and prices as necessary.)
- Thoughtfully bagging groceries for customers when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable. (Cold/hot items together, chemicals/meat separate, heavy items on the bottom and fragile on top, using additional bags to distribute weight upon request.)
- Learning and following all applicable company policies and procedures regarding discounts, coupons, refunds , cash handling, employee purchase and all other transactions handled at the register.
- Reporting to and assisting the front end department manager in various tasks throughout the department such as : stocking/rotating product on shelves and pulling forward ("facing"), customer service, department cleanliness and organization.
This position requires the ability to occasionaly lift at least 25 pounds of weight safely. Training provided. Walking, standing, reaching, and twisting to perform job duties is to be expected throughout the entire shift.
Shift times can start as early as 5am and can end no later than 2am in the morning when the store closes and schedule is determined based on the needs of the business. Weekday, weekend and holiday availability is preferred.
