Duties
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews using advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Administer medications via injections, IV infusions, catheterizations, and other methods while adhering strictly to aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage acute pain and provide specialized care in areas such as ICU, trauma centers, or emergency rooms, ensuring rapid response to critical situations.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations including specimen collection/processing, laboratory tests, and utilizing imaging techniques like sonography or mammography when necessary.
- Assist with complex procedures such as cardiac catheterization, spinal taps, or ostomy care while maintaining sterile processing standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for discharge planning, case management, and long-term care coordination in settings like assisted living or hospice & palliative medicine environments.
- Educate patients and families on health coaching topics including medication administration, nutrition, family planning, and managing chronic conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
Skills
- Proven experience with Epic EMR systems and familiarity with Cerner or Athenahealth platforms for accurate medical documentation.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for procedures, and medical terminology essential for precise patient assessments and record keeping.
- Extensive critical care experience in ICU or Level I & II trauma centers; proficiency in airway management, ventilator operation, and acute pain management protocols.
- Skilled in performing complex procedures including suturing, tube feeding management, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and sterile dressing changes.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics (including memory care), behavioral health patients, and those with developmental disabilities.
- Experience in infection control practices across various settings such as hospital medicine or outpatient clinics; familiarity with NCQA standards is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for triage assessments in urgent care environments or emergency medicine; capable of working under pressure in fast-paced hospital or emergency room settings.
- Knowledge of occupational health protocols and Workers' Compensation law relevant to injury treatment cases; experience with post-acute care environments is advantageous.
