Summary
Manages assigned staff within a claims group to ensure fair, accurate and timely disposition of first and third-party physical damage and injury claims on assigned lines of business. Maintains a focus for delivering excellent customer service and regulatory compliance in all facets of claims handling.
Duties
- Directs the activities of assigned staff in the timely investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation, and equitable settlement of claims; ensures compliance with division, company, and industry standards; ensures continuity of customer service of the best possible value to our agents; solicits innovative ideas for claims handling methods from group staff to improve unit and department performance.
- Selects, develops, and appraises assigned staff; uses internal and external programs to increase the level of technical expertise within the unit; conducts reviews and audits on group claim files and takes appropriate action; maintains a production work environment using appropriate management techniques consistent with company philosophy. Identifies workflow efficiency opportunities, tracks and maintains appropriate Key Performance Indicators.
- Participates in management/claims course work, seminars and workshops to continue development of technical and management skills.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and quality of claims processing
- Review, supervise and evaluate complex claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Ensures a prominent level of job satisfaction through the practice of management techniques designed to meet both career development of staff and current and future staffing needs of the company.
- Takes appropriate action to control indemnity and claim handling costs; monitors and analyzes claims statistical data.
- Protects the company’s legal and monetary interests by staying abreast of pertinent statutory, regulatory and industry activities in the different venues and jurisdictions where assigned claims occur. Ensures assigned staff awareness and compliance.
- Participate with senior management in short term planning, budgeting, and training.
- Perform other activities as required.
Qualifications
- College degree preferred
- MBA, CPCU or AIC designation preferred
- 15 years of claims handling experience required
- Previous management experience preferred
- Proven record of success in achieving both production and quality claims metrics
- Demonstrated exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
