MOTORCYCLE RIDER TRAINING POSITIONS

The Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles is seeking individuals as Coaches and Range Aids for the Motorcycle Rider Education Program. This is a non-classified position that is paid per class taught. Classes are scheduled during the motorcycle season at various locations throughout the state.


Motorcycle Rider Training Coaches

$22.00 - $28.00 per hour, $385- $490 per class

 

SUMMARY: Coaches teach the curriculum adopted by the DMV and administer a variety of tests to applicants to insure only qualified individuals are issued motorcycle endorsements. Coaches are expected to develop and instill the knowledge, attitudes, habits, and skills necessary for the safe operation of a motorcycle.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or its equivalent. 

Experience: At least two years of recent motorcycle riding experience required. Experience as a trainer, teacher, instructor, or other similar work experience preferred.

 

License/Certification: Currently hold a valid motorcycle endorsement that has not been suspended or revoked at any time during the preceding two years.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be 18 years of age or older. The applicant shall demonstrate concern for rider safety, knowledge of motorcycles, and an ability to communicate well with others.

· Employment contingent upon candidate successfully completing a motorcycle rider education instructor preparation course to become certified as a motorcycle instructor or must show proof of prior completion.

· Selected candidates will undergo a fingerprint based criminal record background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for the requirements of this position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


· Provide instruction, training and written and/or oral examinations to ensure basic knowledge of safe motorcycle operation using the curriculum adopted by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

 

· Oversee and evaluate student riding skills through various maneuvers and tests on motorcycles to ensure safe driving ability.

 

· Ensure that only qualified students that successfully pass all required curriculum tests and skills tests are certified to obtain a motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement.

 

· Maintain instructor certification with the training curriculum adopted by the Division of Motor Vehicles by teaching at least three Basic Rider Courses per year.

 

· Complete at least one refresher course and one professional development workshop per year.

 

· Answers questions regarding motorcycle rider education, motor vehicle laws and rules consistent with the Privacy Act.

 

· Maintains assigned site assuring that it is clean and hazard free for the students. Maintains proper inventory and security of student rosters and paperwork including waivers, questionnaires, and course completion documents. May perform basic maintenance to keep the training motorcycles operational.

 

· Completes other duties as assigned.

 

 Motorcycle Rider Training Range Aids

$13.00 per hour, $156 per class

 

Range Aids assist the coaches with setting up and organizing the range equipment for each course and maintains the range area during the course to keep it free of debris and obstructions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: None 

Experience: No experience needed.

License/Certification: Currently hold a valid driver license.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be 16 years of age or older. If under 18 will need parental permission.

· Selected candidates will undergo a fingerprint based criminal record background check and motor vehicle record check to ensure suitability for the requirements of this position.
